Section 49-O of the Constitution:
Did you know that there is a system in our constitution, as per the 1969 act, in section "49-O" that a person can go to the polling booth, confirm his identity, get his finger marked and convey the presiding election officer that he doesn't want to vote anyone!
Yes such a feature is available, but obviously these seemingly notorious leaders have never disclosed it. This is called "49-O".
Why should you go and say "I VOTE NOBODY"... because, in a ward, if a candidate wins, say by 123 votes, and that particular ward has received "49-O" votes more than 123, then that polling will be cancelled and will have to be re-polled. Not only that, but the candidature of the contestants will be removed and they cannot contest the re-polling, since people had already expressed their decision on them. This would bring fear into parties and hence look for genuine candidates for their parties for election. This would change the way, of our whole political system... it is seemingly surprising why the election commission has not revealed such a feature to the public....
Please spread this news to as many as you know... Seems to be a wonderful weapon against corrupt parties in India... show your power, expressing your desire not to vote for anybody, is even more powerful than voting... so don't miss your chance. So either vote, or vote not to vote (vote 49-O) and pass this info on...

And what is it going to do for the public? Will using the mentionaed act ensure that the new joinees will be better than their seniors? Ho is it going to benefit us?
Avoiding/Boycotting elections and waiting to get better candidates is like you are missing the last local and hoping that there might be a train after that.
It is actually the right of the people, and people are ignorant about it.
Its only we people who can help ourselves, and its better to know our rights and fight for ourselves then waiting for someone to come for our rescue.
Why not we ourselves be the candidates and our representatives....?
Its easy said than done. Isnt it? Politics, as seen by masses, is nothing but a Power-packed job. Its an easy way to earn money and power. The problem with people is that they cant find a way to use the power provided to them in a constructive way. Take as many examples as you can and you'll find that there hasnt been any of the social workers, who once entered the politics, kept on doing the public welfare stuff.
My advice would be to use your rights to make the government work for you. There is something called the Right to Information act (RTI). If used properly, it surely will benefit us.
I appreciate the initiative taken by you. The RTI section was just a small input by me.
I agree but the public is ignorant about RTI also, Media what we consider as the fourth pillar of any country can help the public by creating awareness of RTI.
ya right...But those who still dont know about RTI act are worst than illiterates. And wat bout those who know very well bout it, but still aint doing anything. Just putting every single blame on media isnt the solution. What have we done? And what is media? And what is government. All these mediapersons and politicians came out of public.
